Dip Brazed Construction Methods
 |
Slot & Tabs - this
is the preferred construction method for sheet metal joints. It
provides the most accurate positioning at the lowest cost. Slot
dimensions should be made .005 larger on each axis than that of the
mating tab size.
Aluminum Screws - used
to attach thicker components to sheet metal parts where blind holes
are required. Alloy is 6061.
|
Aluminum Rivets - used to attach
two or more relatively thin parts with interfacing surfaces measuring .125
or larger. Alloy is 1100.
Spotwelds - can be used on
larger interfacing surfaces such as at the window brackets in this part. A
cost effective alternative may be the use of rivets.
Staking - used to secure
shouldered bosses.
Tack Welding - can be used where
the other methods are cost prohibitive. As tack welding can involve more
hands-on costs than that of the other construction methods, a study of each
case is needed. When tack welding, always use 1100 rod - other alloys are
subject to cracking when exposed to brazing temperatures.
General Notes
- Locate construction features every 1.75 -
2.00".
- Do not locate construction features to
coincide with final hole locations.
- When dimensioning slot and tab locations, use
the center line - not the edges.
